Well so far we’ve logged 2259 miles. About 0.38948276 of the way through. I thought I’d memorialize a few tidbits of knowledge gained on this journey.
When the experienced loopers say “watch out for the ferries” it appears they were not referring to the friendly little pixies. These ferries have a big bold FERRY sign on them and they are not friendly when you get close.
Big freighters are moving faster and are closer than it appears — and they don’t get out of your way.
You can’t imagine how many restricted zones that put right in rivers and bays where some boater could go. Active Navy and Airforce target practice ranges, nuclear power plant zones, Navy bases, etc. And they get real testy if you happen to wonder into one or two.
If you are boating in MD, keep in mind they have imaginary no wake zones. These are unmarked areas that they seem to arbitrarily select for patrolling.
And be warned — don’t even THINK about flying a drone near the Statue of Liberty. It isn’t worth it.
Finally, if you go on long trips with a dog, make sure you have enough treats. That mutt could make your life miserable if you run out.
Just some things to think about.
There will be a supplement to todays post because everybody likes pictures and we took a few. I will only post the ones PG rated
It looks like Diane was sent to her corner for a time out but she’s the lookout. I could tell because she’s always saying ‘look out”
Our first glimpse of New York
Sculpture of the shushing lady
Those darn ferries
NY mushrooms
Nope, no one was on drugs when they designed that one. If there is ever an earthquake in NY, this one has a head start.
Same building — different angle.
Statue of some lady in the middle of the NY Harbor
Elis Island where Diane’s parents and my grandparents passed through.
And last but surely least, the world famous Colgate Clock.
