Traveling up the beautiful Hudson River was a treat. Lots of pretty sights. We had a great 4th of July watching fireworks in Albany, NY. As we traveled North from Albany, we finally reached another lock. That prepared us for the Erie Canal which has 21 locks (the East part of the canal) and was only a handful of miles ahead. We spent the last three days in the canal so far. There were several 3 hour delays waiting for a barge to clear a lock. We finally tied up to a free dock early in the day to give the barge time to get way ahead of us. We caught up to it today and are staying at the City dock in Little Falls, NY. Pictures of the last few days will follow.

This abandoned castle was on an island in the river

July 3rd we stayed at a nice private boat club that welcomed “loopers”.

At Hyde Park, NY, we visited FDR’s house. He wasn’t home but a nice lady gave us a tour. He was born in that house when he was very young and spent most of his years as a child in a different house but he returned here later in life as a place of retreat.

This seemed to be a common style of light houses along the Hudson

Another one of those

Just want to prove my point. Here’s another

Albany Yacht Club July 4th 2024. Fireworks could be seen just to the right of the tall building.

Some historic building in Albany. I took this while riding taking an Uber ride. Wildest driver ever. Must have lived in NYC before.

BTW, on this trip, I discovered why auto manufacturers put horns in cars. So NJ drivers can communicate to other drivers. Never heard to many horns. In NYC, they used a lot more of hand signals.

I have no idea why I took this

Our current boat

Never guess where we are 🙂

This may look like a bridge but it’s a spillway for a dam. We are waiting on the wall for clearance to enter the lock.

This may look like — well I don’t know what the heck it looks like but it’s a guard gate. In the event of a damn failure or is it a failure of the dam, it closes and prevents a real mess down the river.

The boat ahead of us is entering one of the locks. This lock has a vertical gate (not to be confused with the guard gate rather than the more common swing gates.

Here we are all locked up. We just went through two 33′ lifts. This one is 48′
