Captains Log June 15, 2024

Lots of interesting sights since our last post. The most unexpected thing (besides the dumb generator that isn’t fixed yet) is that Trump visited DC while we were there. In fact for a few minutes he was about 50 feet from our boat. Thursday morning we saw dozens of secret Service guys and a whole bunch of black Cadillac SUVs at the end of our dock and up the Capital Wharf about two restaurants. More kept coming until noon. Although it was supposed to be a secret, the rumor spread quickly among dock staff and some boaters.

On other more important news, Diane did laundry that afternoon.

While in DC, we visited teh SPY museum (really cool), the Museum of Natural History (they still don’t have a Museum of Unnatural History) and the Air and Space Museum. The Smithsonian was closed for remodeling. All three sites were very crowded but still enjoyable.

Today we docked at St Clements Island Maryland and visited the small but nice museum and one room schoolhouse.

Pictures to follow.

Smith so neon

If you worry about 2 ton objects hanging above your head by little wires, the Air and Space Museum is not for you.

Satellites that used to be up in space. Not sure how they got here in the museum —- or why

One of the actual space capsules. Didn’t have anything to write on so I have no idea which one.

?????

Pretty neat looking satellite things that are also down here instead of up there.. When they reach the end of their useful life, they hang them from the ceiling by wires.  I hope that idea never catches on with us humans.

Through the years NASA went through several iterations of space suits. This is the latest in astronaut fashion

Open seafood market in DC on the Warf. I forgot to post this earlier

One room schoolhouse built in 1862. School teacher born in 194X
