There wasn’t much visible damage along the route from Mobile to Apalachicola FL and even to Carabelle where I’ve been stuck since November 2. There were a few have sunk boats but that might have been from years ago (kind of like around Charlotte County). It looks like it’s worth trying to cross the 85

Got back to the boat on October 29. Dusted off the spider webs and other undesirables. After a good night sleep, took off single handed for Bobby’s Fish Camp. that’s the last chance for gas for over 100 miles. The camp is a backwoods fishing camp that happened to be on the river. They have

We are still alive —– but not motoring. We haven’t been blogging because a number of annoying interruptions have occurred. I believe we were in Columbus, MS the last time we posted anything. We got up early, had breakfast and prepared to depart. I forgot Diane was so literal when I said “ready for our

It’s been a while since we posted. We did move a bit. We motored through the Cumberland River to the Barkley Lake Lock, stayed at Green Turtle Bay and then crossed over to Kentucky Lake which is actually the Tennessee River.   While at Grand Harbor Marina in Clifton, we visited Shilo. Those big diesel trawlers weren’t too worried but when we filled up, we triple checked our calculations to see what fuel burn rate we

We thought the Eries Canal and Trent Severn Waterway had barges. That was nothing compared to the Illinois River.  There were barges everywhere — BIG ones. Double wide, four long. We had to wait 40 minute at one lock and 4 hours at another.

Yesterday we left South Milwaukee Yacht Club and intended to motor to Waukegan, IL but the wind and seas were cooperating and the forecast storm didn’t appear, so we kept going—all the way to Chicago. We anchored in anchorage C of the harbor basin. That was a mistake. Although the view was great, between the

WE’LL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!  Yesterday we started off from Sheboygan (Winnebago Indian for “many cheese curds here”) with a forecast of 1’waves and 2′ swells. That sounded swell. When we got about 15 miles out in Lake Michigan, it was actually 2′ waves and 3′ swells. That was NOT swell. We were committed though.
