August 5, 2024

On August 2, 2024 we completed the historic (think old) Trent-Severn Waterway with it’s 45 locks. The locks were built in the mid to late 1800s. Some had wooden gates instead of metal. a couple were fantastically unique which I’ll show you in the pictures. Instead of drop lines, all the T/S locks had cables that we would wrap our dock lines around. Diane at the bow and me at the stern.           The waterway was very picturesque and contained hundreds of tiny islands, most of which had a house on it. We dodged rock out-cropping’s and plowed through a lot of weedy areas. We also discovered Canadians love jet skis. They were everywhere — they were like the flies.                     We visited quite a few small towns. The people were all so friendly; everyone telling us where to go. Seriously — they know the best spots up here on the water. Did you know the grocery stores up here do not give you a bag. If you want one, you have to buy it. When I grabbed a bag in the self-checkout line and started to use it, I found out pretty quickly.                            We met a lot of other Loopers too and made some nice friends.  In Beausoleil Bay, the water was crystal clear and we could plainly see our barnacle-encrusted, stained hull underwater.         We are now in Georgian Bay, the most beautiful part of our trip (until we get to Wisconsin of course) The pictures aren’t loading because the internet is so slow so I’ll post them next time.
