WE’LL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! Yesterday we started off from Sheboygan (Winnebago Indian for “many cheese curds here”) with a forecast of 1’waves and 2′ swells. That sounded swell. When we got about 15 miles out in Lake Michigan, it was actually 2′ waves and 3′ swells. That was NOT swell. We were committed though. So for 8 hours we rocked, rolled, pounded and other things I don’t have words for. Finally reached South Milwaukee Yacht Club. Actually we passed it up by a hundred yards and when we got in, a bunch of folks who were at the bar watching us go past said ” missed the turn huh?” This is a very small but extremely friendly private yacht club much like Washington Irving Yacht Club in NY. And the lounge/bar overlooks the yacht basin and lake. So they had a good view. That night we had the best frozen pizza we every had at the bar along with a few liquid refreshments. We were so glad to get off those seas. We were also surprised to find out that two of the club members have houses in Punta Gorda and two others have houses in Cape Coral. Today, our friend (yup- that’s two now) picked us up at 10:00 and we went to his house where we had a nice day with him and his wife. We plan on staying here in the area and do some biking in Grant Paark next to the Yacht Club and the town where I spent many days with all my cousins 3/4 of a century ago.
This was inside the submarine Cobia in Manitowoc, WI. In case you don’t recognize the person with the shades and short hair — that’s Diane, my first wife.
In a boat, the rest room is called the head. This is the in the submarine. After the tour guide explained how this particular devise worked, I was more than pleased to have the one we have in our boat.
Although I was surprised to see this in the Maritime Museum, I thought this truly belongs in a museum. (just the poster, not the person). The segments of the loop are definitely historic and played an important part in the nation’s past and continues to do so.
