The following photos are of the Trent Severn Waterway and it’s 45 locks
The water rushes in pretty quick when they open those valves.
Some of the locks have wooden gates rather than metal
This very unique lock is called the “tub”. It has two “tubs”, one up high and the other low in the water. Boats motor into the tub and the gate hinges up from the bottom sealing the tub containing water. Then the upper tub (which also contains water) is lowered by gravity. The tub moving down, propels the other tub going up. The rise was something like 80 feet. The scarry part was being the first boat going in the tub because it looks like you are going to fall right off the end and come crashing down.
